The autonomic nervous system is our personal surveillance system, constantly vigilant to ensure our safety. It constantly assesses safety and risk levels, carefully monitoring our bodies, our environment and our social relationships. Polyvagal Theory (PVT), developed by neuroscientist Stephen Porges, examines the role of the autonomic nervous system in regulating our physiological and emotional reactions. According to Deb Dana, Polyvagal Theory is the science of how to feel safe enough to fall in love with life and take the risk of living.
In recent years, neuroscience research has fundamentally changed our understanding of the psychological, physiological, emotional, and social impact of trauma, adverse childhood experiences, and chronic stress on individuals.

Who is Deb Dana?
Deb Dana is a international expert in Polyvagal theory. She is a consultant within the Traumatic Stress Research Consortium from the Kinsey Institute at Indiana University in the United States.
Graduate in social psychology, trainer and speaker, Deb Dana is the first to have put the Polyvagal Theory into practice in her clinical practice. She is particularly sensitive to help people who have suffered complex trauma.
To help spread the application of Polyvagal Theory in clinical practice, Deb Dana has developed a Rhythm of Regulation training series, which offers modules ranging from basic to advanced levels. She regularly travels internationally to deliver this training.
Deb Dana has published numerous scientific articles and has been interviewed numerous times on podcasts and radio. She describes the Polyvagal Theory as "the science of feeling safe enough to fall in love with life and take the risk of living it."
She is the author of The Polyvagal Theory in Therapy: Engaging the Rhythm of Regulation, Polyvagal Exercises for Safety and Connection, creator of the Polyvagal Flip Chart and co-author, with Stephen Porges, of Clinical Applications of the Polyvagal Theory: The Emergence of Polyvagal-Informed Therapies.
